Smoking is the leading cause of bronchitis. This is the main reason for worsening acute bronchitis to become chronic; if looking at the statistic, more than 90% of people with bronchitis suffering smoke or used to smoke.
However, chronic bronchitis is usually, but not always caused by smoking. There are some other causes that are responsible and are much necessary to be taken care of. Some of the major reasons to Bronchitis are:
- Secondhand smoke
- Air pollution irritants (ozone and nitrogen dioxide)
- Dust (coal or grain dust)
- Fume (Longer exposure to hairspray, paints, welding fume, and engine exhaust)
